This morning Glasvegas were crowned winners of the XFM New Music Award, celebrating the best British debut album of 2008. A shortlist of 10 were selected by you, the fans, and the band were selected as ultimate winners by a panel of industry judges. A huge thank you to everyone who voted for Glasvegas - you can read more and listen back to an interview with James on XFM from early this morning right here.
“It's a first class debut album in that it is memorable, passionate and well formed. Every track is a winner, leaves you wanting more and wondering what will come next... I wish I’d produced it”, John Leckie "Dark as fuck but full of great lines. 'I will be the angel on your shoulder, my name is Geraldine I’m you’re social worker'. Good line but made great by his phrasing", Gary Lightbody “The dark reality of James Allan’s lyrics sung with his distinctive voice are what makes this such a powerful work. It sounds timeless but could only have been written and recorded now”, John Kennedy (Xfm) “… For what it says lyrically about social issues in modern Britain… This album will be seen as a time capsule for generations of future listeners”, Chris Price (MTV “Heading that big, dark sound set for stadiums that will dominate 2009”, Mat Horne “I haven’t been as excited about a new band coming through since The Libertines or Kasabian. They sound, look and behave in every way I want a rock band to… The best new band of the last year without question”, Gordon Smart (The Sun)
